General Settings#
Open Settings → General for startup behavior, the menu bar icon, diagnostics, the screenshot folder, and weather units. This page also covers the CoolDock menu bar menu.
Startup#
Launch CoolDock at login opens CoolDock in the menu bar and shows the Dock when you sign in. If macOS reports that approval is waiting, choose Open Login Items and allow CoolDock there.
Show menu bar icon is on by default. Turn it off to remove the CoolDock icon from the menu bar. You can still open Settings by right-clicking the Dock and choosing Settings, or by pressing ⌘, while CoolDock is focused.
The menu bar menu#
Click the CoolDock menu bar icon for:
- Widgets — opens or closes the widget browser. Before activation this item reads Activate License, and Continue Setup appears while onboarding is unfinished.
- Settings
- Layout — switches between the layout scenarios. Fixed expands into its six screen positions. Reset Layout returns CoolDock to a visible floating Dock centered on the display under the pointer; see Layout.
- Help — Export Diagnostics, Check for Updates, Contact, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Show Onboarding.
- Quit CoolDock
Diagnostics#
Export Diagnostics saves a support file. See Diagnostics & Troubleshooting for what it contains.
Screenshots#
The Recent Screenshots widget reads from the macOS screenshot folder, the Desktop, and Pictures/Screenshots automatically. Choose Choose Screenshot Folder to read from one folder of your choice instead. With a custom folder selected, Change Folder picks another folder and Use Automatic Locations returns to the automatic set. CoolDock flags the folder if it becomes unavailable.
Weather units#
Choose Automatic, Celsius (°C), or Fahrenheit (°F). Automatic follows your Mac region: the US uses Fahrenheit and most other countries use Celsius. The setting applies to every weather widget, including Today Overview and Calendar.
